27 Years Entertaining
Waterford
The Waterford Panto Society, now in its 26th year, performs annually in the Theatre Royal, Waterford. Founded in 1985 by Jimmy Kelly and Padraig O'Griofa, the Panto Society has produced a show every year since bar one when the Theatre Royal was closed for renovations.
During this time we have been lucky enough to work with some fine directors - Denny Corcoran, Michael Grant and our current director - Bryan Flynn. The show has been a launching pad for, and has featured many of Waterfords experienced entertainers and directors - Richie Hayes, Ray Collins, David Hennessy, Vicki Graham, David Flynn, Holly Browne to name but a few have all threaded the boards with the society. Even the Munster Express drama critic Liam Murphy has done his stint as the Panto Villian!
In 2007 the founder members Jimmy and Padraig decided that the time had come to retire, after 22 years of complete devotion to the cause. The society passed on into the hands of the members, and the rest is history with our shows going from strength to strength each year.
The Panto has always fostered new talent, and we continue to do so by giving 16 children a chance to appear in our production every year. Along with our experienced troupe of dancers and our front line, it gives them an experience they treasure for years to come - and some of these kids have returned to us as adult dancers years later!
